What’s the Neighborhood Like?
Oakleigh is a beautiful neighborhood that was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1972. It is bounded by Government, Broad, Texas, and Ann Streets. The buildings range in age from the 1820s to the 1940s. Washington Square and one of Mobile’s top attractions, Oakleigh House is located in this neighborhood. Local residences can enjoy fine dining at Kitchen on George and coffee and dessert at Cream & Sugar or great burgers and night life at Callaghan’s Irish Pub without getting in their car.
What’s Going on Nearby the Oakleigh Historic District?
Oakleigh Historic Distoric District is located right next to Downtown Mobile, which rarely has a dull moment. With an active night life scene, as well as tons of galleries and nearby necessities (think Greer’s grocery store, Serda’s Coffee, great restaurants and diners, banks) something is always happening in Downtown Mobile. Every 2nd Friday is a fabulous Art Walk with lots of galleries like Gallery 450 open from 6-9. There is a market in Cathedral Square most Saturdays and so many festivals like the Ten Sixty Five free music festival
Mobile is the birthplace of Mardi Gras in America and when the parades roll down the street you will find yourself in walking distance of the parade routes. You are also in walking distance of Ladd Stadium and can walk to the Senior Bowl Game and the GoDaddy Bowl.
